Celebrating the Catskill Mountain Foundation’s 25th Anniversary
In 2023 we will celebrate the Catskill Mountain Foundation’s 25th anniversary. We will present approximately 70 performances as part of the celebration. Enclosed is an overview of our 2023 performing arts schedule. It is by far our most ambitious season ever.
Pre-COVID we presented about 25 performances each year. And, of course, during the worst of the pandemic we suspended live in-person performances and moved to virtual performances. Over the past year we have once again presented performances at both the Orpheum Performing Arts Center and at the Doctorow Center for the Arts. We are excited to offer a full season of classical, pop and jazz music, dance, and theater performances throughout 2023. CLICK HERE to see the full schedule!
In 2022 we launched the CMF Community Theater/Arts Fund and started our partnership with the Maude Adams Theater Hub (MATH). 2023 will be our first full year of partnering with MATH, with many outstanding shows in the works.
Earlier this year, New York State announced that Tannersville will receive a $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) grant. The Catskill Mountain Foundation submitted a $3.5MM project for the Orpheum to install state-of-the-art theatrical equipment and to build two new dance studios adjacent to the Orpheum. The decision on which projects will be funded out of this grant will be announced shortly, and we are on the edge of our seat as we wait. We have already secured the $1.75 million match required for the DRI grant.
Through our partnerships with the Joyce Theater and with Works and Process at the Guggenheim, we are hosting a series of two-week dance residencies at the Orpheum. The addition of the dance studios will make it possible for us to continue to host these residencies while presenting performances at the Orpheum at the same time, and also to expand the Orpheum Dance Program Community Classes that we are now running from the Red Barn in the Village of Hunter. MATH is also looking forward to having access to the new studios to use for rehearsals.
In 2022 we welcomed Kulvinder Kaur Dhew as the new Director of our Sugar Maples Center for Creative Arts. She has ambitious plans for our studio art school. We have just winterized our
ceramics studio, and for the first time in 2023 our Sugar Maples program will operate year-round. Throughout 2023 we will be working on plans for the renovation and winterization of
additional buildings on the Sugar Maples campus.
Your ongoing support is important and helps us continue to bring the arts to our Mountaintop community. We hope that you will include the Catskill Mountain Foundation in your end-of-year giving.
