Pedrito Martinez Band: Afro-Cuban Folkloric Concert

Since settling in New York City in the fall of 1998, Pedrito has recorded or performed with Wynton Marsalis, Paul Simon, Bruce Springsteen, Dave Matthews, and Sting, and has contributed to well over 100 albums. A master of Afro-Cuban folkloric music and the batá drum, he has played and sung with dozens of Cuban rumba groups and contributed to several important films.

Kyle Marshall Choreography, A Partnership Project with the Catskill Mountain Foundation and The Joyce Theater Foundation, performs Alice and Ruin at the Catskill Mountain Foundation’s Orpheum Performing Arts Center in Tannersville. Also on the program is a screening of the dance film STELLAR. Performers include Kyle Marshall (artistic director and choreographer), Bree Breeden, Cayleen Del Rosario, Jose Lapaz-Rodriguez, and Nik Owens. This is the first of the Catskill Mountain Foundation’s four partnership projects with The Joyce Theater in 2023.

Music at Home: The Life of a Square Piano in the early 19th Century

Ornamentation and Improvisation in Mozart's Keyboard Music

A lecture-performance exploring extempore ornamentation in Mozart’s keyboard music. Mr. Levin will explain the historical basis for the practice of performers adding ornaments to Mozart’s music, illustrating this practice through his perforning of selected Mozart sonata movements, a performance of one of Mozart’s complete sonatas and his  completion of one of Mozart’s unfinished sonata fragments.

Franz Schubert’s love of nature is well-documented. In many of his more than six hundred songs, and in two of his famous song cycles, Die schöne Müllerin and Winterreise, Schubert describes foot journeys through the country, detailing the weather and a host of natural details. Schubert himself went on regular Ausflüge, or getaway trips, with a group of friends to escape the noisy bustle of Vienna, and as a tonic to his challenging health problems. Song after song describes what it is to wander among the elements. Our program highlights Schubert’s love of water poetry.

For seven decades, dance icon and New York City Ballet principal dancer Jacques d’Amboise called Hunter home. He served on the board of the Catskill Mountain Foundation and each summer the National Dance Institute, an organization he founded, came to the Orpheum Performing Arts Center providing educational programs enriching the lives of so many young people in our community. On Sunday, July 9, the Catskill Mountain Foundation in partnership with Works & Process pays tribute to this dance legend and beloved community member with a program featuring stars from New York City Ballet and Jennifer Homans, dance critic for The New Yorker.

Tolkien, in No Strings Marionette Company's adaptation of this stirring adventure fantasy, puppeteers adeptly animate marionettes, life-size body puppets and amazing puppet hybrids.

Dublin – the ancient city of pubs, pints, and castles. Wandering bards and musicians have traveled the road to Dublin for centuries. In this new program from Jeannette Sorrell, haunting ballads and legends give way to driving reels, as Celtic fiddlers set sparks flying. Irish singer Fiona Gillespie joins the merry instrumentalists on fiddles, flute, cello, hammered dulcimer, plucked instruments, and harpsichord.
