Successful candidates are provided the opportunity to assist visiting faculty and students and immerse themselves in the busy summer workshop program and participate in special projects and events in the beautiful Catskill Mountains of New York.
Sugar Maples Center for Creative Arts offers Assistantships in its Ceramics, Fibers and 2D studios. Successful candidates are provided the opportunity to assist visiting faculty and students and immerse themselves in the busy summer workshop program and participate in special projects and events in the beautiful Catskill Mountains of New York.
Assistants are expected to be self-motivated and be able to anticipate the needs of the studio. During a typical workshop, alongside the Department Head they help set up studio equipment, meet with faculty and students for studio orientation, safety rules and show students and faculty where supplies and tools are located. Additionally, they assist faculty in demos and students with techniques particular to that workshop. Assistants are occasionally asked to pick-up Instructors and/or students at the airport. We recommend and prefer Assistants to have cars. All transport expenses are fully reimbursed.
Ideal candidates will have knowledge of art studio practices/techniques, studio clean-up and be detail-oriented to their particular discipline. Assistants take turns being the monitor for open studio hours during workshops. Ceramics Assistants help load and fire kilns, prepare glazes, and keep equipment in good condition.
Duration of Assistantship June 5 - September 15, 2023. (negotiable)
Compensation includes studio space, housing, and a weekly stipend.
